International Justice Mission (IJM) works worldwide to free people from slavery, to protect women and children from physical and sexual violence, to hold perpetrators accountable and to strengthen justice systems. Together we form an unstoppable movement for justice.

As Chair of the Supervisory Board, you contribute directly to this mission. Alongside the other members, you safeguard the direction, integrity, finances and strategy of IJM Netherlands. In this supervisory role you work closely with the CEO, in consultation with the other members of the Supervisory Board.

About the Board

The Supervisory Board consists of people committed to living out IJM’s values: rooted in faith, professional and bridge-building. As a Board Member you bring your own expertise and experience, but above all your heart for justice.

We expect you to:

• Understand IJM’s mission, vision and values, and contribute to them with conviction.

• Have a living Christian faith in which prayer and the longing for God’s justice have a place.

• Be available for meetings and invest time in preparation.

• Think strategically and exercise independent judgment.

• Speak out with creativity and courage, and listen to minority voices.

• Be cross-culturally sensitive and able to work well in a team.

• Know and take seriously the legal duties and responsibilities of a Supervisory Board member.

As Chair you will focus especially on:

• Safeguarding policy and strategy.

• Creating a safe and respectful meeting culture.

• Representing IJM as an ambassador.

• Preparing for and contributing to sound decision-making.

About the role

What the Chair role looks like in practice

The Chair plays a pivotal role in the functioning of the Supervisory Board. You lead meetings, foster an open and fruitful culture, and ensure that decisions are carefully taken and implemented. You work closely with the CEO and the Regional President, and together with the other Board members you are involved in guiding and evaluating the CEO. You also oversee the composition and development of the Board and represent IJM externally when needed.

Other members of the Supervisory Board complement you with their focus areas: Finance, HRM, Marketing & Fundraising, Spiritual Formation and Integrity.

You are the Chair we are looking for if you:

• Have proven experience in leadership and governance.

• Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Can provide direction while enabling other Board members to contribute their expertise.

• Are known for your integrity and courage.

• Are willing to invest approx. 30 hours per year in this responsible and meaningful role.

Term: 3 years, renewable (maximum of 3 terms in exceptional cases).
